Yesterday we took Jeremy on a big adventure and I think he probably had the best day of his life. We took our urban hound out to Long Island to spend the day with some friends who were having a BBQ.
The train journey out of the city was "interesting", JB wasn't too happy about being confined to his carrier, he wanted to get out and explore the train and he was very vocal about it roll.gif I was a bit concerned people were going to complain and we'd get thrown off the train, but of course as soon as anyone looked at him, he melted their hearts. I do have a sneaking suspicion that they all silently cheered once we disembarked though.
When we arrived at the house his nose went wild, sniffing the lovely fresh clean air, the trees, flowers, the tidy streets, then meeting new people exploring their house (knocking over the bin, and helping with the clean up!). After a quick inspection of the fence, Mark determined that the garden was "Beagle-Safe" and the monster was set FREE !!! He's never been free anywhere other than the Dog Run before and never on grass, which he loves! I swear he was in heaven. He was rolling around in the grass, mooching around (underneath and behind) the shrubs and bushes. He played soccer with the kids, chase with the adults, ate lots of ice, romped around the herb garden testing all the different herbs. He obliging helped clean up a few spillages including potatoes and BBQ Pork and generally just had a blast.
He did not stop for 5 1/2 hours. He was constantly on the go, not lying down for more than 1 minute at a time, for fear of missing out on something! The only thing that could have possibly made the day better would have been another dog to play with.
The train ride home was a lot easier... he slept the whole way. In fact ever since we got home last night JB has been sleeping. He well and truly wore himself out but he had the best time ever.
It really was a perfect day.
