This is a copy of something that was posted on the forum I run. I thought it was very well written and an interesting and true observation, so wanted to share it with you...
"Here's a perspective to help balance out all the @#$% that comes your way when running into confrontation with other adults.
Remember....we are all children. We all celebrate bragging rights when we hit 21 saying "now we're an adult". To a 50 year old person these words fall on deaf ears. Not because they're 50 & partially deaf, they just think its a bit funny...rather nostalgic. They've been there before.
But the concept of "children" has never been so perfect when describing humanity. If you're really healthy & don't fall into the Darwin Awards category you may live as long as 120 years. But in the scheme of things that's just a drop in the bucket. There were Antedeluvians that lived close to 1000-year lifespans. (They didn't have a tax system. That probably helped.)
Two things critical to growing children are maturity & experience. These 2 shape your character (internal) & personality (external). But strip away the maturity & experience from an adult & all you have left is the child. The child is still there. It just has a shell of time coiled around it. I guess the child could be refered to as the soul, or spirit. But it's still there. It always will be.
It's main spark is curiosity. It's sexless. Anatomy, hormones & culture drive sex, but the child is basically "look & explore". It's as simple as that.
So when you see an old person sitting on a park bench feeding pigeons, you're looking at a child. The bouncer at a night club is a child. The policeman is a child. The bank manager is a child. All they have to their advantage to give the impression of authority or class or ingenuity...is time. And it's something they can't stop, & they have minimal control over it.
But still, there is that child. Almost like a set of eyes. It's most prized possession is love. But in the expanding coil of time, it must learn to love." - Corona
