Today Mark and I went to Circuit City, and true to form we were like kids in a sweet shop. We actually went because the DVD player in my PC has been on the blink for months, and the time had come for it to be replaced. Naturally the PC parts/accessories section was the last we visited. We did manage to control ourselves and not buy any new 'toys', but we both managed to break our leashes in the DVD section when we saw lots of our favourite movies on sale for $6.99 & $9.99.
One of the 15 DVD's we bought was "The Thorn Birds". Now I should take this opportunity to say (in order to protect Mark's cool guy image) that this was my choice and he did groan at me. But this is THE mini-series of them all and I stand by my purchase! One of the main reasons I decided to buy this DVD was that I remember watching this as a child (probably aged 11) with my Mum. Naturally Dad wasn't interested in such drivel, so Mum was relegated to watching it on the small (I think B&W) portable in their bedroom. She would curl up in bed to watch the epic unfold and who would sneak in and snuggle down beside her?... little old me! This is such a warm memory for me. It was my 'special time' with my mum with no Dad or 'orrible big brother around to divide her attention and I treasured these times (and still do given the rare opportunity!).
Anyway I digress from the point of this entry. In watching the first two and a half hour disk of the 4 disk set tonight, I noticed something that I completely missed out on when I was 11..... Richard Chamberlain was rather yummy back in those days, and I can't help but wonder if that was really him 'sans robes' or a body double, either way he was mighty fine ;) Now I see what my Mum saw in it all those years ago!!!!
