Wow things have changed. What was acceptable in web coding 4 years ago is by no means acceptable now. As anyone who visits (or used to visit) our little web-site knows, I didn't update it very regularly and eventually out of frustration Mark took it over and then updated it even less! So it's been a number of years since I have done any web-design or coding. Recently though, an online buddy from Guild of Greeters exposed me to the joys of cascading style sheets (css) and server side includes (ssi). That little intro was enough to whet my appetite to learn more, and once I started I was bitten by the old html bug that I had years ago.
I have to say that css are the best thing since sliced bread. For any non techie, they basically are a document that your browser refers to when loading the webpage that gives it instructions on colours, fonts, and placement of objects etc. Before the days of css, all that information had to be entered in every single web page, and much of it had to be repeated many many times on each page. It also means that you can change the look of your site at the drop of a hat, just by changing the values in the css document, rather than having to re-do your entire site. Needless to say css makes life a lot easier.
In re-doing our site I have learned so much about css and I am completely in love with them! Consequently I have started making web-sites again. Yay! Something to do with my time, and my brain! I am currently working on a new site for myself which will be unveiled shortly but at the moment is a secret, so ask me no questions and I will tell you no lies! I have also just finished making a web-site for my good friend Crazy Jenny. Despite all my hard work making the site for her, she still whines at me constantly for not putting a link to it on my site (there really is no pleasing some people) so in the interest of peace and quiet..... CJ's site - enjoy. I am actually very pleased with her site, I think it looks great and I am thrilled that she loves it too.
So keep an eye out for news on my next big project in the next week or two. I am very excited about it and can't wait to share it with everyone.
